Crochet Chunky Deer Tote

This chunky deer tote is sooo cute! It’s made with thick bulky yarn and the knit stitch it so it really holds it’s shape well. It would make a perfect gift bag or a bag to keep by the couch with your crochet project or a rolled up blanket. Festive, yet it can be kept out through the winter time and work perfectly as a living room accessory. I can also envision making this pattern into an adorable couch pillow. I’ve included step by step instructions below.

Print this silhoutte to work with your project and mark off the squares as you go.

Materials :

Big Twist Natural Blend (2 Dark Grey, 1 Almond)
Clover Crochet Hook, Size K/6.5mm
Yarn needle
Yarn Scissors

Abbreviations:

sc – single crochet
blsc – back loop single crochet
st – stitch

Begin with bottom of tote.

Ch 23

Sc in 2^nd st for 21 st. 3 sc in last st. rotate work.

Sc across back of chain 21. Sc 3 in last st. rotate.

Sc 21, 3 sc in last st

Sc 22, 2 sc, 2 sc

Sc 22, 2 sc, 2 sc, 2 sc

Sc 24 (do not join) bottom is finished.

Blsc all the way around (55 st)

Sc in v around (53st) to the front. do not join. Keep working in spiral.

This is the V you will insert your hook into from the previous row:

10 sc (front) in grey, change color to cream 3 sc, switch to grey 10 sc (this is the front of the bag).

You will color change like this:

Continue to Sc around to next section that is cream (in front). Change to cream and complete stitches. Attach new grey skein (so the back stays a bit neater) and work with 3 balls. I also stitched over the yarn that was pulled across the pattern in the back to hide the yarn.

Work up the pattern, crossing off the rows that you have done. I worked over the back yarn consistently so that I wouldn’t have to cut any yarn unless I had to.

Once you finish the last row (end on the side) you will continue and make the handles.

Handles

You will now measure where to put the handles. Lay the bag flat and mark off the middle with your hook. I used scrap yarn to mark off where I would put the handles. The handles are made by a ch 13 and skipping 11 st on each side. There will be 16 st on each side between the handles.
