Remember those macrame plant hangers that everyone had in the 70’s? I’ve debated teaching myself how to macrame just so I could make one! Then I realized I could do something similar with crochet and butcher twine! You could use cotton yarn, but it would stretch with the weight of the planter and butcher twine is so much sturdier.
So if you’d love to have a gorgeous kitchen accent hanging by your sink like I do, then this is your lucky day! My first stop was a consignment shop to load up on different size glass bowls and jars. This was surprisingly simple. I was able to gather all the bowls and containers in one shop for less than a dollar each.

This pattern is for the large size bowl.
(11” tall (to bottom) x 26.5” around bowl)
Materials:
- Regency Natural Cooking Twine 1/2 Cone 100% Cotton 500ft
- Clover Soft Touch Crochet Hook, Size 7 4.5mm
- Yarn needle
- Yarn Scissors
Abbreviations:
- Ch – chain
- Sc – single crochet
- Dc – double crochet
- MR – Magic Ring
- Sk – skip a stitch

Round 1: ch 2, 11 dc in ring, pull closed. (12 dc)
Round 2: Ch 2, dc in same st, chain 1, 2dc then ch 1 in each stitch, join to first stitch. Repeat around. Join. (12 2dc clusters)
Round 3: slip stitch into chain space from previous row. Ch 2, 2dc in same stitch, ch 1, *3dc in next chain space, ch 1*. Repeat * to * all the way around. Join. (12 3dc groups)
Round 4: dc all the way around with 2dc in each ch space. Join. (60 stitches)
Round 5: ch 1. Back loop sc all the way around. Join. (60 stitches)
Round 6: ch 2, 2dc in same stitch, ch 1, *sk 2 stitches, 3dc in same stitch*, repeat * to * all the way around (20 3dc clusters)
Round 7: slip stitch into next chain space, repeat round 6 in previous row chain spaces. Join. (20 3dc clusters)
Round 8: slip stitch into next chain space, repeat round 6 in previous row chain spaces. Join. (20 3dc clusters).
Round 9: slip stitch into next chain space, repeat round 6 in previous row chain spaces. Join. (20 3dc clusters).
Round 10: slip stitch into next chain space, repeat round 6 in previous row chain spaces. Join. (20 3dc clusters).
Round 11: slip stitch into next chain space, repeat round 6 in previous row chain spaces. Join. (20 3dc clusters).
You have now finished the bowl part. Now you will start the hanging loops.
After join, *ch 34 and sc in chain space (through the entire row for sturdiness) after 5th 3dc cluster* Repeat from * to *. Join to bottom of first chain (of the first chain you made). You will now have 4 hanging loops.
Long strings
Chain 100, fasten off. Make 4 long strands.
Loop each chain through the 4 hanging loops (doubling the chain). Gather each chain together in a group at the top and wrap many times over with string until very tight. Weave the end through with needle. It will look like this:
