A crochet basket is a timeless organizational tool that is so versatile! You can put the remotes in it, you can fill with soaps or lotions for the bathroom, you can you use it as a gift bag, as a plant pot cover, kids legos…. the possibilities are endless!
My biggest problem with crochet baskets are that depending on the stitch, the yarn, the gauge, it can be floppy. BUT…. it doesn’t have to be!!! I had this leftover yarn in my bin from when I made my littlest a hat and it coincidentally was leaning up again a spool of jute string. Inspiration!! Combine them….. and VOILA!! A sturdier version of the crochet basket that keeps its form!!
I’m thrilled to share this FREE pattern with you! Don’t forget to share your version and tag me on Facebook MB Stitches and on Instagram MB_Stitches!!

Step by Step Instructions
Begin with your MR and start the base of your basket. Join each row at the end with a slip stitch.
Once you finish the base, you will begin to sc in the back look and feed the jute through your stitch.
It will begin to look like this (still crocheting into the back look to create the ridge that will be the base of your basket).
You will be working with both strings. Keep unwinding it slowly so it doesn’t tangle into your yarn.
Continue with this pattern and don’t join at the end of the rows, Keep going up in a spiral so you don’t have a seem. The second row will be full sc in both loops.
The next steps will involve you to sc for the handle AROUND the jute on both sides. Then when you come around for the next row you will sc on top of the handle you just created.
When you finish the last row over the handles, you will slip stitch into the corner of one of the handles and finish off. And you’re done! The finished product will be sturdy and adorable!
