For the black tones vest, I used a heavier size 4 weight yarn for the back and lapels in complimenting colors. You could use a Vanna’s Choice Obsidian for the whole vest and it would be gorgeous! Or you could use two different complementing colors in browns and tans as well. You can purchase Obsidian here
Materials:
- Size 4 worsted weight yarn of your choice
- crochet hook, 5 mm size H
- Yarn needle
- Yarn Scissors
Abbreviations:
Ch – chain
Sc – single crochet
Dc – double crochet
Sk – skip a stitch
Color A (back)
Ch to 36” across (about 83 stitches for a medium/large)
Row 1: ch 2. Dc across. Turn.
Row 2: ch 2. Dc across. Turn.
Row 3: ch 2. Dc across. Turn.
Row 4: ch 2. Dc in the next 42 stitches. Ch 18, dc into 19th stitch and continue to dc to the end.
Row 5: ch 2. Dc across and through each chain to the end.
Row 6-29: ch 2. Dc across and turn each time.
Row 30: ch 2. Dc in the next 42 stitches. Ch 18, dc into 19th stitch and continue to dc to the end.
Row 31: ch 2. Dc across and through each chain to the end.
Row 32-33: ch 2. Dc across. Turn.
Color B (lapels)
Attach new color at the beginning of last stitch in color A.
Row 1: ch 1. sc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in same st, *sk 1 st, sc and dc in same st*. Repeat from * to * to the end. Turn.
Row 2: ch 1. Sk dc st and sc in 3rd st from hook, dc in same st. *sk 1 st, sc and dc in same st*. Repeat from * to * to the end. Turn.
Row 3: After 8” ch 4, sk 4, and continue with row 1 and 2 pattern. (button hole – only do this on the right lapel. otherwise keep repeating row 2).
Row 4: repeat row 2 through the chain stitches.
Row 5-23: repeat row 2. Fasten off.
Turn project to other side and attach color B to beginning of row.
Row 1: ch 1. sc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in same st, *sk 1 st, sc and dc in same st*. Repeat from * to * to the end. Turn.
Row 2: ch 1. Sk dc st and sc in 3rd st from hook, dc in same st. *sk 1 st, sc and dc in same st*. Repeat from * to * to the end. Turn.
Row 3-23: repeat row 2. Fasten off.
Finishing
Sc with color B all around the rectangle poncho evenly.
Sc around each arm hole opening.
Attach button on opposing lapel at the height you would like the fasten.

Beautiful! Thank you for the pattern. How much yarn did it take to complete? Ounces/yards?
I used a silk yarn that came without a wrapping unfortunately (which is why I didn't include the yards). I would suggest 4-5 skeins of Vanna's Choice Obsidian (170 yds), which I recommended in the pattern. Good luck!
