I just finished this raven pullover and I may never get out of it. I’m loving how stylish it looks and how it’s perfect it is for a beautiful Virginia fall, or a cooler summer night. Or even a warmer winter day like today!
I’ve included various adjustments for different sizes and the beauty of this project is it’s SOOO simple! There’s no shaping and no complicated decreases. It’s 2 panels and a cowl……and voila! You’re done! The dc crossover stitch gives it a gorgeous open feel and it’s vents really well, so it’s not too hot. Have I mentioned that I love it?

Materials:
- Caron Simply Soft Heather Yarn, 5 Ounce, Heather Grey, Single Ball
(4 skeins)
- crochet hook, size H, 5 mm
- Yarn needle
- Yarn Scissors
(4 skeins)
Abbreviations:
- ch – chain
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- ss – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
Gauge 5.25” for a row of 5 consecutive long dc clusters
I made this pullover for myself, so the size is between a medium and large. Here are some adjustments for size:
Small: chain 67
X-large: chain 83
To make larger or smaller than these sizes, either add multiples of 4 or subtract.
Size Medium/large:
Ch 75 (with 5mm) about 20” long
Row 1: hdc in second st from hook across (73 st)
Row 2: ch 2. 2 hdc, *sk st, 3 hdc and long dc in skipped st.* Repeat from * to * to last 3 st. hdc in last 3 st without skipping a st in between. (see pics below)
Row 3: ch 2. Hdc in same st and across.
Row 4-55: Repeat rows 2 and 3, alternating, in this pattern for 55 total rows. (you will end on a row 2)
Row 56: ch 1. 5 sc, 63 hdc, 5 sc. Fasten off.
Long dc Stitch
Make 2 of these panels.
As you finish the second panel, do not fasten off as you will use the attached yarn to ss the top shoulder on one side.
SS both shoulders and leave a hole for the neck.
Now you will lay both pieces with the same sides up (so that one side won’t have the stitches backwards), you’ll put them right sides facing in together and then ss the top should 5 inches in and fasten off. You will ss the other shoulder 5” in and fasten off, leaving a hole for the neck. (I measured from the end of my shoulder to my neck and estimated for a large opening so the cowl won’t be too tight).
I measured from my waist up to my under arm to get this next measurement. SS up 17” on each side and leave opening for your arm. (again, make sure it’s still on the wrong side).
Once you finish ss up both sides, now is a good time to weave in all the ends, while you’ve got the pullover on the wrong side.
Cowl Neck
Attach yarn on right side of the neck at shoulder and hdc around and join. Turn and ch 2 on each row at beginning and hdc in same st. Continue to hdc around and joining for 26 rows. Fasten off.
Finishing
sc around each arm hole around and fasten off.
